Macon - Cherry Blossom Capital of the World

Known as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World", Macon is a city located in central Georgia, USA. Also nicknamed as the Heart of Georgia, Macon is the center of a metropolitan area that contains around 400,000 people and encompasses the nearby city of Warner Robins. The downtown area of Macon is home to antebellum homes, cathedrals, and other historic buildings that were built in the past by Macon's elite, including the Woodruff House, the Hay House, and the Cannonball House.

With a plethora of cherry trees that blossom annually, Macon still offers traditional southern charm at the heart of Georgia with antebellum (pre-Civil War) homes. Macon holds the city-wide Cherry Blossom Festival each year, coinciding with the March blossoming. Music lovers can throng Madison during fall when the Southern Jubilee is held celebrating music and southern pride.

Evidence from ice-age tribes to the more recent Muscogee people have shown that over 12,000 years of human history in the region existed in the area around Macon. The Ocmulgee National Monument has been erected to preserve this history. Notable attractions in Macon include the Tubman African American Museum presenting African American art, culture, and history and the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences that exhibits fine art, natural history, and astronomy.
